A little bit about the performances:
To kick off the festival on Thursday, November 6th, Anita Ratnam will present SPIRALS, a convergence of dance, poetry and music to the live accompaniment of Anil Srinivasan and Sikkil Gurucharan. The second half of the evening will feature Renjith Babu and Vijna Vasudevan a dynamic dance couple who have been taking the art of the duet to new levels.
On Friday, November 7th, Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant and sitar artist Alif Laila will perform. Dr Jayant is celebrated as one of India’s leading classical dancers, choreographers and dance scholars. She will present Moving from Myth to Abstraction, an evening length Bharata Natyam dance that explores the nine human emotions highlighted in Indian classical dance through the mnemonics of music, body kinetics, and abstract movement. The evening will begin with a performance from acclaimed sitar artist Alif Laila.
On Saturday, November 8th, Shanta and VP Dhananjayan will be in attendance. The Dhananjayans, who have performed together for over 50 years, will present Light on the Path, a dance performed to the live accompaniment of Anil Srinivasan and Sikkil Gurucharan. Dakshina is honored to share the evening with the Dhananjayans as the opening act of the night, performing two works staged on the company by esteemed dancers Rama Vaidyanathan and Sheejith Krishna.
