The three met through Facebook a few years ago with a shared passion for cooking and baking. They also hail from various parts of Indonesia, but now live in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. After getting to know one another, Andi Hutomo, Henny Priastuti and Eunice Veasey decided to start putting their collective talents together to form Henny’s Kitchen, offering a marketplace via the internet for their products to help fulfill a need among the Indonesian community in the United States and for anyone else interested in experiencing a taste of Indonesian cuisine.
Yesterday evening, their efforts took a giant step forward with the announced future opening of a storefront in Alexandria, VA. The store will be located at 4940 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria with a grand opening date tentatively set for March 8. The launching was marked with a cocktail reception at the Embassy of Indonesia in Washington, giving an opportunity for those attending to taste many of the store’s offerings. The event was hosted by Ni Made Ayu Marthini who is Head of the Commercial Affairs Office at the Embassy. It was supported by The Joglo House (http://joglohouse.us/) which sells hand-crafted products from Indonesia in their store in Alexandria and Nagadi (http://www.nagadicoffee.com/), a coffee wholesaler based in Silver Spring, Md.
“We take pride in our product,” Andi Hutomo told the attendees. “We use all fresh ingredients. We do the hard work for you.”
Henny’s Kitchen specializes in sauces. Eunice Veasey brings her baking talents to add an array of choices to satisfy one’s sweet tooth.
The company’s website describes their offering: “We’ve put together easy recipes with our easy authentic Indonesian sauce. Most people are busy, between families and careers and the endless demands of day to day life. We are here to help finding the time to make a home cooked meal.”
