The American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC) delivered once again another version of what has become one of the most popular festivals in the Nation’s Capital. The 11th Annual Turkish Festival along a three-block stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW just a few blocks from the White House capped the 2nd Annual Turkish Cultural Heritage Month.
Several authentic Turkish food vendors, a Turkish bazaar, a children’s activities center, a Turkish coffee tent and demonstrations was all going on while the action on stage was non-stop with dancing and musical performances. Smiles were adorned on many faces young and old. Groups traveled from throughout the Northeastern part of the United States an as far away as Turkey and Amsterdam.
As with every edition of the festival, people happily were urged out of their chairs and onto their feet for folk dancing in front of the stage.
“We hope that you will enjoy and you will be entertained and you will be encouraged to learn more about the Turkish culture and its connections,” ATA-DC President Demet Cabbar told the audience. “Before being a Turkish festival, it’s a festival of friendship, it’s a festival of cooperation. We have people from different parts of the world to celebrate the Turkish festival together and enjoy our friendship.”
